Tohru Fukuyama
Adjunct Professor of Chemistry
Tohru Fukuyama was born in Anjo, Aich, in 1948, and received his B.A. in 1971 and M.A. in 1973 from Nagoya University. He then moved to Harvard University and received his Ph.D. in 1977 under the direction of Professor Y. Kishi. After a year of postdoctoral Study at Harvard, he joined the faculty of Rice University as assistant Professor, and rose to the rank of Full Professor in 1988. In 1995, he moved to the University of Tokyo, where he is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He was a recipient of 1993 ACS Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award. His research interest is in the area of total synthsis of complex natural products.
Research Statement
At the University of Tokyo our major research efforts are directed toward total synthesis of complex natural products with interesting biological activities.
